Laverty Injured in Big WSBK crash

Hopeful he'll return to Australia for Round 1

Eugene Laverty of Aprilia suffered numerous injuries in a big off on Wednesday at Philip Island, during pre-season tests.

Laverty's bike went into a big headshake at doing over 310k/ph, puckering the Aprilia's brake pads. Laverty went into the treacherous turn one without brakes, rode off the track and crashed.

The Irishman suffered a broken finger in the process and knocked his internals around prettey severly, as well as a very hard impact on his hand. Laverty has done the 20-plus hour flight home for medical treatment, but hopes to be back on the Aprilia for the first round next weekend at Phillip Island.

Carlos Checa left his sickbed to go out to the track and lay down the gauntlet for the other riders, posting the fastest time on his Ducati. The Test at the Island also included a number of other crashes and several forms of Australian wildlife made cameo appearances on the circuit.
