• BMW R12 S unveiled
  • Uses the same 1170cc engine
  • Design inspired by R90 S

The motorcycle’s styling is inspired by the R90 S from the ‘70s and mein gott is it beautiful! To give you context, the R90 S was a racing icon for BMW with a class win in the Isle of Man TT and a Daytona 200 win- both in 1976. The bike even won the AMA Superbike Championship in the USA.

Even though the R12 S is based on the R nineT, it manages to set itself apart. It comes with a handlebar-mounted fairing and a tinted windscreen. However, the orange livery that is a tribute to the 1975 BMW R90 S Daytona Orange is striking. Moreover, it comes with a red pinstriping that complements the brushed aluminium finish on the tank and pillion seat cowl.

Apart from the colours, the R12 S is adorned with the BMW Option 719 Classic II spoke wheels with anodised rims. The fork tubes and handlebars are done up in black while the cylinder head, coil covers and oil filler screw are finished in matt black. Overall, the new R12 S does look like a package you would drool over.

Underneath, the motorcycle uses the same 1170cc, air/oil-cooled flat twin motor that churns out 108bhp as the R nineT. That’s not all, BMW has also equipped the motorcycle with the otherwise optional Comfort package, as standard. This includes the Hill Start Control, Quickshifter, cruise control and heated grips.
