Honda celebrates Gold Wing’s 50th Anniversary with updates

The Honda Gold Wing has been the brand’s flagship tourer for a while now. 50 years to be precise. The motorcycle was first introduced to the world as the GL1000, four-cylinder in 1975 and has now gotten subtle updates to celebrate its golden anniversary.

Over the last 50 years, the Honda Gold Wing has grown to use an 1833cc, flat-six motor that is now Euro 5+ compliant in 2025. The mill puts out 124.7bhp and gets an additional O2 sensor and tweaks to the ECU. Honda continues to offer it in DCT and Manual gearbox options.

Now, the motorcycle is offered in standard and Tour variants with both receiving updates. These include new paint options that hark back to the older Gold Wings. One of the most striking is the Eternal Gold and Mahogany Brown colour that is derived from the 1988 GL1500. It also gets special badging to mark its anniversary. In addition to that, it also gets a seven-inch TFT display and Gold Wing emblem on the key that comes with the 50th Anniversary and ‘Since 1975’ logo. The first 1833 customers will also get a replica model that measures 11 inches long and six inches high.

Honda has also updated the rider/pillion audio technology with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto available. It also comes with a. new speaker system for improved audio quality at high speeds. In addition to this, the new Honda Goldwing also gets a new ‘Ducking’ feature that lowers background music automatically during conversations over comms. Mighty clever! The package also includes two USB-C charging sockets for smartphones as standard.

The 2025 Honda Goldwing is expected to makes its debut in the Australasian market by the end of this year.
