Inline-four Honda CBR400R in the works?

Honda has filed a trademark application for “CBR400R Four” hinting that a Kawasaki ZX-4RR rival could be in the pipeline and likely to be revealed by 2025.

  • Honda CBR400R Four name trademarked
  • No engine specifications revealed
  • Could be launched in 2025

Now, the filing done on 27 August with Japan’s intellectual property office does not specify that this would be an inline-four powered bike. However, the “Four” hints at a major factor that differentiates it from the standard model. That said, it would take on the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-4R which also gets an inline-four screamer format.

Other than the engine, one can expect revised styling that is more aggressive and could also include winglets to keep with the current trend. Further, bits like adjustable suspension, quick shifter and other tech wizardry could be part of the package to keep the bike competitive.

Lastly, the trademark filing doesn’t guarantee a launch. Although, the fact that Honda has reserved the name hints that the bike could be in the works. Also considering the interest of a segment Kawasaki has brought back with the ZX-4RR, launching an inline-four CBR400R in 2025 seems like a fitting answer.
