If you’d ask me, I’d suggest anyone buying their new motorcycle to go grab good riding gear first. And good doesn’t necessarily have to be expensive. At least that’s what the LS2 Stream 2 aims to be. The Stream 2 is one of the brand’s entry-level helmets and starts at a light-on-your-pocket $279 for the matte black version while a swanky example like the one I am using, costs $299.

The Construction

The ‘urban-touring’ helmet is constructed using KPA or Kinetic Polymer Alloy- LS2’s proprietary patented material that it has been using since 2015. Keeping the scientific bits aside, KPA is essentially a blend of polycarbonate, thermoplastics and aramid nano fibers making it lightweight with a high penetration resistance. It is claimed to test better than traditional composites and meets both ECE 22.06 and DOT safety norms. This is also a step up from the older Stream Evo which uses a High-Pressure Thermoplastic Technology (HPTT).

LS2 Stream 2 Helmet

You wouldn’t even have to worry about getting the right size lid since LS2 has sizes from XS to 3XL across three shells. With summer coming, the Stream 2’s four vents will be of good use. There’s a chin vent, top vent and two exhaust vents at the rear that also serve as a spoiler and add visual oomph.

LS2 Stream 2 Review: Is it comfortable?

On the inside, the helmet boasts a hypoallergenic, laser-cut foam that is easily removable and washable. You also get a soft chin curtain for the windy days, as standard. However, the plus point to the Stream 2 is the extra comfort liner. It snuggled into my head the first time I tried on the helmet. As of writing, I have yet to wear the helmet and go out for a long, much-needed spin, but for first impressions on its comfort, it is quite likeable. Even the fit is snug and that feeling is even more pronounced with the breath guard close to the nose. If you like your helmet snug, this LS2 could be your thing. The fit from the Stream 2 brings a strong sense of security around my head- and that’s saying something since I’ve worn a super snug race helmet for as long as I can remember.

LS2 Stream 2 Review: Safety and features

Since it is a city/touring helmet, convenience is a priority. So, it comes with a ratchet locking system. While this brings in convenience, a Double D-ring system would be much more secure. LS2 has also integrated a tinted sun-visor into the helmet that can be flipped up/down with the toggle on the left. The main visor is clear and lists UV resistant, scratch resistant and “ready for Pinlock 70 MaxVision” as its features.

What’s next?

With riding season in tow, I look forward to using the LS2 Stream 2 as my everyday lid thanks to its practicality and convenience. We’ll be testing out the helmet in various riding conditions to find out if good truly doesn’t necessarily have to be expensive.
