BMW Motorrad unveiled the R20 Concept in May 2024 but the news of the motorcycle fizzled out with the brand announcing other interesting models like the F450 GS and R12 S. Well, new details of the R20 have now come up and it is expected to debut soon.
According to the details from Germany, the motorcycle is scheduled for a 2026 launch and is likely to be showcased at the EICMA this year. Moreover, we know that it will come powered by a 2000cc, boxer-twin engine that is expected to make around 100bhpa and a meaty 160Nm.
As for its components, the BMW R20 uses a steel frame suspended on USD forks and a monoshock.Both units come from the Ohlins Blackline series are are adjustable. Braking will be done with twin discs for the front and a rear disc with dual-channel ABS. Then there are the 17-inch wheels with cross-spokes for the retro appeal. And while the concept was showcased with a single seat, BMW is likely to offer a pillion seat as optional. The R20’s feature list is expected to have full-LED lighting, a TFT display with connectivity, ride modes, traction control, hill hold and cruise control as well.
With a global launch expected in 2026, it is likely to make its way to New Zealand and Australian shores later that year itself.
