Norton working on a new sub-400cc motorcycle?

  • Norton’s 300- 400cc product likely in the works
  • Could be made in India
  • Expected to be launched by 2028

Norton Motorcycles, the British brand now owned by Indian two-wheeler manufacturer TVS, is reportedly working on motorcycles in the 300cc to 500cc category.

According to the report, there will be around three bikes in the sub-500cc segment from Norton. Although interestingly, the first product will likely be a 300- 400cc model with retro styling. And it is expected to be ready for launch by 2028. That said, the small capacity Nortons will be built from the ground up around a new chassis but continue to use the 300cc single-cylinder engine from TVS. The unit is said to be modular and capable to be increased to 500cc as well.

The new Norton motorcycle would face heavy competition worldwide, with the presence of the Royal Enfield Hunter 350 and Guerrilla 450, as well as the Triumph Speed 400. TVS is expected to market these upcoming motorcycles in the US and Europe and possibly expand to New Zealand and Australia, where the popularity of retro bikes is high.

Now, for those living under a rock, TVS bought Norton in 2020 when the brand was facing serious financial and legal troubles and invested a massive amount into its future developments. These new small-capacity models will also be manufactured by TVS at its Hosur plant in India and exported to the world.
