Updated Suzuki DR-Z400 likely to be launched in 2025

The Suzuki DR-Z400 will mark its 25th Anniversary next year, so what better way to celebrate than an updated model?

  • Updated Suzuki DR-Z400 under development
  • Patents reveal updated engine
  • Could be launched in 2025

The new patent application reveals that a revamped model with a new frame, modern styling tweaks and an electronic throttle is under development. Specifically addressed are the challenges of fitting an electronic throttle body to a motorcycle designed for a mechanical throttle, while retaining the size of the bike.

Then there are the styling cues that are similar to the Suzuki RM-Z dirt bike range. However, the engine, frame and fuel tank are distinctively derived from the DR-Z. Additionally, the exhaust system also appears to be changed to suit the new throttle body. That said, it is unclear whether the motorcycle will continue with its 398cc engine or have a sixth gear.

Other than these changes, there seems to be no difference. Suzuki has also managed to keep hush about a new DR-Z400. Although, with no signs of the motorcycle in its 2025 model list, it could be on low launch-priority. That said, we can expect Suzuki to bring the motorcycle to NZ a couple of months after its launch globally.
