- 2025 Yamaha MT-07 unveiled
- Uses new Y-AMT
- Could be launched in Australia and New Zealand next year
Yamaha has unveiled the new 2025 MT-07 for global markets. The naked motorcycle received significant updates to its chassis, features, styling and engine.
The biggest change is the new Y-AMT, Yamaha’s Automated Manual transmission that first debuted on the Yamaha MT-09. This transmission eliminates the need to manually operate the clutch while allowing the rider to shift gears through buttons on the left side switchgear.
As we found out through our test of the MT-09 Y-AMT, shifting is much easier and more convenient than it sounds. The AMT also gives the option of D and D+ which provide the ability to have two shift patterns. While D has a balanced pattern for everyday riding, the D+ is more feisty with upshifts coming higher in the rev band. That said, the MT-07 also gets ride mode for power and traction control modulation along with cruise control. Ah, glory to the inventor of the ride-by-wire!
Well, other than the Y-AMT version, Yamaha has also launched the manual version of the motorcycle that gains an assist and slipper clutch. Both models, however, come with a revised airbox and new intake funnels. The motorcycle’s CP2, 698cc parallel-twin remains unchanged and has 72.4bhp on tap. But Yamaha has gone ahead and added a more rigid chassis, lighter wheels and new bodywork that is lighter than before. Resultantly, the new MT-07 weighs 1kg less despite the new electronics.
Adding to the list of changes is a pair of 41mm USD forks, a lower seat height of 805mm and a pair of four-piston radial calipers for the front. The styling has also been tweaked and is now closer to the MT-09’s futuristic front end and LED headlamp. The fuel tank is beefier too while the rear section, although with teeny changes looks sharp.
We can expect Yamaha to bring in the 2025 MT-07 to New Zealand and Australia by mid of next year.
