- 2025 Yamaha R3 is here
- Gets major cosmetic and feature updates
- Expected to be launched in NZ in early 2025
The Yamaha R3 has finally received a much-needed update for 2025. The motorcycle remained majorly unchanged for many years and has now gotten a new design and added features to its package.
With the new ‘R-series’ inspired styling, the 2025 R3 looks much more aggressive now. The front end sports a step-like design for the LED DRLs with a projector in what looks like an air intake. Even the side fairings and the tail section have been revised, making the bike look bigger overall.
That said, Yamaha has significantly improved the R3’s feature list. It now comes with an assist and slipper clutch- a much-needed update. Then there is the new LCD unit that can connect to a smartphone via Bluetooth. However, a TFT display would have been ideal in this day and age and considering its competition- the Aprilia RS457 and Kawasaki Ninja 500 are far ahead.
The engine and chassis of the 2025 Yamaha R3 are the same as its predecessor. Powering the motorcycle is a 321cc, parallel-twin engine that churns 41.4bhp and 29.5Nm and is mated to a six-speed gearbox. It uses KYB-sourced USD forks up front and a rear monoshock that takes care of damping. Meanwhile, braking is done by single discs at both ends with dual-channel ABS.
Now, we can expect Yamaha to bring in the 2025 R3 to the New Zealand and Australian markets sometime in 2025 along with the new R9.
